Fort Washington Food Pantry
HOME ABOUT US DONORS EVENTS
The Fort Washington Food Pantry is located in the second floor of the educational building of St John’s Church - Broad Creek. For the last 20 years it has been open each Saturday morning to offer much needed groceries to local families in need.
The Food Pantry is sponsored jointly by St. John’s Episcopal Church, Grace Lutheran Church , and Fort Washington Christian Church, all located in Fort Washington, Maryland. We are a 501(c) (3) in the name of St. John’s Church - Broad Creek.
Our sponsors furnish most of the volunteers who manage and operate the food pantry. They raise money and they locate and transport huge quantities of needed food.We are grateful to a number of generous corporations, non-profit groups, and farmers, who share with us their surplus food. Many individuals and organizations offer cash donations which allow us to round out our food supplies to make a balanced menu. Our new membership in the Capital Area Food Bank helps us to stretch those dollars.

We were recently honored by the presentation of a large donation given to us by Sheehy Ford of Marlow Heights.
At the presentation ceremony were Richard Sherry, General Manager of Sheehy Ford, Evelyn and Sonny Betancourt, members of St. John’s Church who most generously nominated the Food Pantry for the gift. Also present were Rev. Marc Britt, Pastor of St. John’s Church, and Barbara Livingston, co-chair (with Norman Neil, absent) of the Food Pantry together with Carol Hasek and Jane Hudnall members of the Food Pantry’s Board of Trustees.
Thank you to Sheehy Ford and to Evelyn and Sonny Betancourt.
The Capitol Area Food Bank
is the biggest source of food for the Fort Washington Food Pantry.
We are very grateful for our weekly truckload of fresh and frozen food supplies. The Food Bank also supplies many of our less perishable foods. They only supply tax exempt organizations that feed the needy. For more information see their web site: www.capitolareafoodbank.org.
The Share Food Network
supplies packages of food monthly to hungry people, rich or poor. The cost of a package is $16 plus two hours of community service. Share feeds the body and strengthens the community.
Our local Share is kind to Food Pantries. The Fort Washington Food Pantry thanks Share for the many bags of surplus produce.
Ollie and Sam have taken very good care of us. Contact share at: www.sharedc.org
Panera Bread Cafe
in Waldorf bakes and sells artisan bread. The Food Pantry thanks Panera and Wayne for keeping us well supplied with their wonderful bread.
The Food Pantry gave food to more than 650 families in 2005. It takes a lot of cans and boxes to feed that many people. We are very lucky to be beneficiaries of Scouting for Food.
Each November area Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts bring us much needed food supplies. Scout Troop 1557 of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Piscataway and Cub Scout Pack 1661 and Boy Scout Troop 1551 both of Fort Washington Baptist Church bring us so much food! Bags of food are everywhere, even down the hall. In no time, the shelves will be filled to overflowing.
Thank you, Scouts.
